social-security-disability-verge-insolvency
First: I am afraid for the solvency of our nation. Things continue to get worse, and the people continue to sit on their paws. The only group that is freaking out is this one. Considering the average age of Tea Party members is guessed to be Tea Party Demographics then maybe this is the real reason they are losing it. They want their Social Security... oh, and to control your abortions, marriage choices, morality in general, taxes to build the country on, guns and force you to go to church or at least recognize Jesus as your Savior whether you want to or not.
I am probably missing something, or maybe I need a Tin Foil Hat.
The Tea Party events I have attended felt more like a tent revival minus the snake handlers. Of course old men walking around dressed as Freedom Riders and Ben Franklin is equally creepy. They have been mostly my parents age, retirees that have time and the money to be able to sit about and talk about days gone by. I mean they were at the height of their earning power during the 80's. Of course they look to that time period as the best of days. And Reagan made it all possible.
ReplyDeleteEven my own parents have lost all touch with the reality of what it takes for me to live daily life. I was explaining to my son about how both sets of his grandparents and retired and they still get paid because they had pensions and later still 401K's. You put some of your pay toward retirement, I explained. But sadly I had to tell him his dad and I haven't been able to set back money for retirement yet. Some circumstances were beyond our control. We have needed all of it just to live. My own comment really hit me hard and it is really the reality of what many Americans even with educations are facing. One bad event, job loss, medical issue, and you are one foot into the working poor class grave. And it is nearly impossible to work your way back up to the next.
So back to the Tea Partiers and Social Security, yes they are afraid of losing that little extra entitlement they have coming to them. As long as they get what is theirs they don't give a damn about what happens to everyone behind them. They want to talk about don't bankrupt my grandchildren. Really? But you aren't willing to take less NOW so that can happen right?
They seem to be old goofballs to me, but I have only seen a few. They are loud and crazy, but don't seem to really understand the era they think they represent.
